Windgap is a local organisation
that provides support to people with intellectual disabilities and
their families.
Over the past two years,
we have forged a strong relationship with Windgap. The activities
we engage in with them, give our students the opportunity to
help others
usingthe specific skills they gain at Kenvale.
In 2005 and in 2006,
Kenvale students put their event management skills to work.
They assisted the clients of Windgap to organise and hold themed
dinner parties. These have proven most popular, with the
clients talking about them for months after the
event.
Kenvale students have
assisted Windgap clients in their “Transition to Work”
program. They have presented to the clients on Personal
Presentation – particularly for a work setting.
Kenvale has also
organised a cooking course for staff of Windgap who cook meals for
clients as part of their work. One of the Kenvale
lecturers, Sandra Clark, volunteered her time
to design and teach that program.
Currently three Windgap
clients participate in work experience at Kenvale one day a
week. At Kenvale they get experience in office skills, to help
them gain office skills in a real work
environment.
